After introducing the first generation of Legendary Pokémon last month, Niantic has today announced that more legendary Pokémon are arriving in the game. Pokémon Raikou, Entei, and Suicune from the Johto region are now available to capture over the coming months.

If you’re not familiar with these new legendaries, here’s the breakdown:

  • Raikou, an Electric-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout the Americas.
  • Entei, a Fire-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout Europe and Africa.
  • Suicune, a Water-type Legendary Pokémon, can be battled throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Though they have a location assigned, on September 30, all these Pokémon will move to different locations until October 31st when they will switch again, giving trainers in all regions an opportunity to catch all three.

Niantic has said they’re using the introduction of these three new Pokémon to launch EX Raids. Formerly Exclusive Raids, these raids require you to have battled at a gym recently before being invited to battle these new legendary Pokémon when they appear. Niantic is field testing this on a select few gyms before rolling it out globally.

The changes to raid battles, are Niantic says about ‘making the EX Raid Battle feature engaging, rewarding, and most importantly, fun for Trainers who regularly participate in Raid Battles’.

Look out for the invites to EX Raid Battles from September 6th.
