As long as there’s been Pokémon games, there’s been Pokémon remorse – saying goodbye to those little buddies you spent so much time with as you move from game to game. No more. Sort of.
Pokémon Home is a new cloud service announced by The Pokémon Company on Twitter this week, promises to link up characters from past games and bring them into Pokémon Go, Pokémon Let’s Go and Pokémon Sword & Shield.
There’ll be some kind of touchpoint for the service on Android, iOS and Switch. This might be an app itself, or it might just be a connection to the service within existing apps.
Welcome home, Trainers.
Introducing Pokémon HOME, a cloud service that will work with Nintendo Switch and iOS and Android devices, allowing you to bring over the Pokémon that you’ve shared adventures with throughout your journey. #PokemonHOME pic.twitter.com/fAlodMrRzh

It would seem that there’s not much that can be done for older games on older systems, but that might not be completely true – Pokémon Home cab talk to Pokemon Bank, the service used by Nintendo’s 3DS titles. Going back further than that is difficult though.
If you’ve seen Detective Pikachu, you might be slightly concerned about the next tweet, though:
Trainers, we’re working hard to create a future that brings people and Pokémon closer together.
Bring your Pokémon home to #PokemonHOME in early 2020.

Still, chin up eh? (There’s a new Detective Pikachu have coming to Switch, too)
Back to Pokémon Home, though: it’s not really clear how this will all work, but the company certainly has time on its side to work all this out, though – Pokémon Home is scheduled for release at some point in 2020.
