Whatsapp… Love it or hate it, you or someone you know uses it. It’s one of the first and still one of the largest messaging platforms. The offering is cross platform for mobile devices and continues to be the go-to for messaging for millions of users. For some time now they’ve been hinting at a dark mode that is coming and with the latest update to Beta there are more elements of it present, but not a full dark mode yet.
The latest update brings a new, Facebook branding to the app which adds some transparency around the messaging platforms owner. It’s no secret but there still seems to be some question around how deeply the Facebook finger is in the pie of Whatsapp.
Dark Mode has been hinted at and small elements seen within the app, but it’s still not there in full. It’s a bit disappointing, but there are some good signs according to several reports online so far. Android Police reported:
… several elements from the app now follow the system-level setting on Android 10 and 9. The splash screen, homescreen widget, and chat wallpaper all switch to their dark versions, without any hacks or tricks. The first two have been showing up for a while now, but the dark wallpaper only recently popped up.
Recently the Beta changes haven’t taken long before appearing in stable versions on the Play Store, so keep your eyes out for an update coming to your device soon.
