Nearly a year ago, we heard through WABetaInfo that WhatsApp was slated for true multi-device support. Finally, and somewhat disappointingly, it’s taken the best part of a year to come to fruition.
The team at WABetaInfo have delved into the code for the latest WhatsApp Beta. A code snippet of interest points to the ability to register a “companion device”. Great news, but the feature isn’t finalised from the evidence on the provided screenshots. Seemingly operating in the same way desktop clients do:
- Open the app on your secondary device
- Select to link it
- Scan the provided QR code with your primary device
While a second phone may be a stretch, having access to WhatsApp on a tablet — particularly with a keyboard — could be a game-changer for the messaging heavyweights among us.
