Telegram is one of the strongest competitors in the messaging game at present. A continual stream of new features has forced other big players to up their game. An interesting mention of “Premium” services has appeared in the Beta app on iOS.
The team at Telegram Beta Channel have found references to stickers and reactions marked for “premium access”. It seems too, that if a non-paying user tries to view the media they’ll be prompted to upgrade to a paid service. While it’s not an absolute certainty, and no concrete detail of the option, this suggests that there may be a paid tier of access coming soon.
It makes a lot of sense for Telegram to introduce a paid option; after all, they’re a business. When you create a mixed cohort of paid and free use clients, it can also create barriers, and on a communication platform, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
