HTC has today announced their latest Desire handset has landed in Australia with the Desire 650 heading to Vodafone as a pre-paid offering for $199.
The phone is a fun, yet functional device with a grooved pattern embossed on the rear of the phone making for a nicely grippy feel to the phone that adds a tactile signal to let you know which way is up when you pick up the phone. The Desire 650 is coming to Vodafone in a Dark Grey colour option, which though it won’t stand out from the crowd, is certainly functional.
The Desire 650 offers a decent hardware bundle for your $199, with a 5″ HD (720P) display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of storage which is backed up by a microSD card slot. A 13MP BSI camera sensor with HDR on the rear will allow for decent shots, while a 5MP selfie camera sits on the front. A 2,200mAh battery will power the phone, which should last a fair while given the lower power processor and screen resolution.

The phone does come with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with an overlay of HTC Sense, and though Marshmallow is getting a little long in the tooth it’s not too bad, though the phone is not likely to be in line for any OS updates in the near future. HTC has built some neat features into their Sense overlay for the Desire 650 including a night mode, and a panorama sweep shot for the camera.

Those are lousy specs for the price…I would get the Sony XA instead.
My old LG Leon that Optus cleared for $69 had a more powerful Snapdragon 410…so did the now long gone but never forgotten king of the value phones, the Huawei Y550…
