There is so much Telstra news coming out at the moment, it’s amazing. We’ve received more info from our connect that, if anything, adds more pieces to the Telstra Galaxy S puzzle. The source says that the Galaxy S will only be available for $0 on the $99 Cap and any caps below that you’ll have to pay the RRP ($960) for the device up front. We hope this doesn’t happen, as it will surely kill any possible sales for the Galaxy S.
However, business plans will have the Galaxy S on caps below $99 without having to pay the full RRP up front:
- $79 Cap – $199
- $49 Cap – $349
Seems Telstra want this to be a business device, so if you’ve got yourself an ABN, it looks as though you’re in luck. If this news pans out, will you still be looking to get the Galaxy S from Telstra?

I’m really disappointed in this news. I hope that telstra don’t go through with this and price it competitively to Optus.
I’ve been delaying getting a HTC Desire from Telstra as I really wanted a Galaxy S. Optus has both of these devices on their $0 upfront $49 cap.
I’ll wait now to see if telstra screw up the pricing for the Desire HD, otherwise they’ve priced themselves out of another unvalued customer.
I did exactly what you did, but this weekend I opted for the Desire because the longer you wait the more new phones are going to appear on the horizon so you’re better off getting the best phone you can at the price you want at the moment, that way you’re not stuck with waiting. That’s just my two cents anyway

Just be aware that Telstra are likely to be bringing in a different model of this device to match their network. They will need 850Mhz HSDPA if they are expecting people to use the NextG network. Maybe that explains the price tag?
don’t forget that the handtec one is the 8GB… their 16GB one is around $700…
Wow, Telstra stupidity is back with a vengeance. I really thought they were starting to understand that pricing themselves out of the market wasn’t doing them any favours, there will be no Telstra for me for another couple of years.

According to telstra.com, the HTC Desire isnt even in stock right now. If these Galaxy S rumors turn out to be true, then I have no idea what Telstra are trying to achieve.

It’s possible they get more out of the deal with HTC and are pricing the Samsung phone really high so that people will pick up the Desire instead. Maybe they will sell them to big businesses with some decent call, msg & data allowances incl. Can’t see personal customers paying 2x the optus cap unless it’s unlimited everything included.

HAH! That pricing is beyond pathetic, doesn’t even get close to being competitive with other carriers! Telstra still have not learnt their lesson, would I be surprised this doesn’t sell many units? NOT AT ALL!
I would certainly be put off by this pricing structure and I totally agree it will kill sales big time. Telstra have lost the plot if they do this.and to thank I thought they were finally getting a clue with their desire pricing structure.
Sure. It’s not the ideal scenario and it WILL impact on sales, but to say it will “surely kill any possible sales” is a bit sensationalist, don’t you think?
If I didn’t already have a Desire, I wouldn’t be put off by this pricing structure at all.
I agree with you in terms of choice of language only – I would suggest that these prices will “surely significantly hamper any possible sales for the Galaxy S”.
