Google always knows how to build suspense, this was proven once again today when @GoogleMobile tweeted the above Tweet with a picture of mini Android Gingerbreads that were just baked, you can see that pic after if you hit the “continue reading” button below.
With hints coming out of Google thick and fast, the release date for Gingerbread (2.3) can’t be too far off.. Can it?

So when did we reach the point that we were sure that Gingerbread was going to be 2.3? I’m seeing that more and more all over the tech news, but it seems not that long ago nobody was sure whether it was going to be 2.3 or 3.0.
I’ve wondered that same thing for a while!
For ages I saw people assuming Gingerbread was 3.0 (and everyone saying “Oh, Gingerbread will be when Android is really ready for tablets!”)
So does this now mean that Gingerbread is DEFINITELY 2.3 and that 2.3 is good for tablets? Or that Google still doesn’t consider 2.3 “ready” for tablets?
I don’t know anything about which is for Tablets. But the 2.3 naming convention came from a Google Android Dev on the Android Bug Tracker
How long do you think it will take the XDA guys to get this on. Im using a desire
