Calling all Australian Android developers ..

We’re coming up on 12 months of Android Australia, and in that time you, our readers, have come to trust us to bring you Android news specifically targeted to the Australian audience. There’s not a lot of point knowing what AT&T’s latest Android release will be, because chances are, you won’t see it here for awhile.

No, we bring the local perspective.

You’ve come to rely on us for reviews of phones that are, or will very shortly be, available in Australia so you can choose what to buy. Sometimes we cover international releases – such as what’s been going on at the Mobile World Congress in recent days – but this is the exception.

One area where we haven’t really gone before has been application reviews. This is a function of a few things, but primarily there haven’t been a lot of locally produced Android applications. That’s slowly changing, and we want the number of Aussie Android applications to really take off.

Starting soon, we’re going to showcase Australian Android applications on here, with reviews, recommendations and more. We (Buzz, Lucas and I) have become rather well known for our handset reviews, giving an honest (and sometimes damning) opinion of what we see.

So here’s our call to arms. We want you, Australian Android developers, to put your apps where your mouth is – get in touch with us, give us your apps to review, and you’ll get some pretty decent exposure on the Android Australia website. You might say “so what?”

In the last three months, we have the following fairly impressive stats:

• Almost 750,000 impressions
• Just under 200,000 unique visitors
• 1500 followers on Twitter, and a further 800 users on Facebook, many of whom re-share what we post, increasing our exposure.

These numbers are growing by the week. In short, who wouldn’t want that kind of exposure for their applications? We want to see what you can produce, we want to see what you’re already selling, and what’s in the pipeline.

• Depending on the volume of submissions, we may not review every application that crosses our desk.
• As with handset reviews, we have to prioritise what we look at, and what we don’t.
• We don’t guarantee to give a positive or negative slant on the review – submitting your app for review is not buying advertising space with us – if you want to do that, contact Buzz to discuss advertising. Yes, we do sell it.
• In the interests of fairness, if we’re going to post up a negative review, we’ll give you the opportunity to respond before we go live, and incorporate those comments in our review.
• After all, we want to encourage local Android developers, not scare them to death.
