Android has always been missing what seems to be a basic feature for smartphones, native Video Chat. Apple have had the head start on Android by launching Facetime alongside the iPhone 4. Now with the new Android 2.3.4 update, which is expected to hit the Nexus S first, Gtalk will allow for Video and Voice Chat that will finally put front-facing cameras to good use. When in a Video Call any text chat will appear over the top of the video so you don’t have to stop the stream, and if you need to do something else whilst in the middle of a Video Call, the stream will pause but voice chat will still continue to function. Nifty. You can read more about the update and the source link and by watching the video above.

Nice but my Galaxy S and S II are both on 2.3.5
Didn’t seem like native to me. Still need internet connection.
Are you freaking serious?
Got my OTA update of 2.3.4 a few days ago for my NexusOne. Maybe because i am in London
at the moment? Anyway no issues…..
Android Central have a link to download the update and instructions on how to do the the update. I have just done it on my Vodafone AU Nexus S and it works a treat! Now I just need my little bro to update his Nexus S so I can try the video chat 🙂

Great, so now we have to wait for the phone manufacturers to decide whether to push this update or not, then if the do, wait for the specific telco to give it the go ahead and push the update through yet again.
Jesus, something really needs to be done about this
I love how the Google guys aren’t serious faced, suited up, business professional types. I’m totally over that executive look. Casual has the cred with me.
