We’ve just received word from a source filled with trusted Telstra knowledge that our nation’s largest carrier is planning on selling the Samsung Galaxy S Plus (i9001) in the near future. The Galaxy S Plus is pictured above and looks absolutely identical to the original Galaxy S; that’s because it is. The only difference between the i9000 and the i9001 is that it has a Qualcomm MSM8255T CPU which is clocked at 1.4GHz; a larger battery (1650mAh over 1500mAh); an upgrade to 14.4Mbit HSPA; and launches with Android 2.3 “Gingerbread”.

Seeing as the Galaxy S II is hitting Telstra next month, I don’t see why Telstra can’t price the Galaxy S Plus quite aggressively. Match the i9001 up with the Galaxy S II, Sensation and EVO 3D, and you’ve got yourself an Android Party at Telstra’s place.

I just purchased the new GALAXY S PLUS in Hong Kong and now discover I am unable to get a unlock code for it. I am with Telstra Australia. Several attempts at various internet sites specialising in providing unlock codes have been unsuccessful. Can anyone tell me how to get the unlock code for the SAMSUNG GALAXY S PLUS or am I stuck with a phone that’s pretty well useless?

Lyndon

So does this mean that we will finally see Gingerbread officially on the Galaxy S?
