Capisce? No? Let me explain. Remember the Nexus S? Well the specs of that device were almost a carbon copy of the Galaxy S plus a few other addition that made it ‘stand out’ as a Nexus device: NFC, Curved Display, ‘Nexus’ name.
Now not too long ago Samsung launched the Galaxy S II HD LTE (what a mouthful) in South Korea and going by the specs on that bad boy, I think it might be to the Nexus Prime what the Galaxy S was to the Nexus S. You following now?
The Galaxy S II HD LTE has the following specs that line up with the Nexus Prime rumours:
- 4.65-inch 1280×720 Super AMOLED HD Display — so will the Nexus Prime, apparently
- 1.5GHz Dual-Core CPU — so will the Nexus Prime, apparently
- HSPA+, CDMA and LTE radios — so will the Nexus Prime, apparently
- 9.5mm in thickness — so will the Nexus Prime, apparently
If that trend continues, we can expect the Nexus Prime to have a battery of at least 1850mAh, 8MP rear and 2MP front Cameras, and a bucket-load of win. Furthermore, the front-facing camera on the Nexus Prime is on the opposite side to the Galaxy S II, but the same side as the Galaxy S II HD LTE and Galaxy S. I rest my rumour-driven case and am prepared to eat my own words.
If you’re interested in the expected dimensions of the Nexus Prime, Irwin, Matty and myself spent at least an hour comparing FCC records on multiple devices and the leak images of the Nexus Prime and came to the conclusion that the Nexus Prime will be around: 136 x 68 x 9.5 mm. The Galaxy S II HD LTE is 129.8 x 68.8 x 9.5 mm for comparison.
Yeah, this makes sense. Decent specs on the phone.
Once the Prime is launched, I hope ICS is released soon after for handsets. Supposedly Google had agreements with manufacturers and telco’s to push out updates faster, but I don’t think Australian telcos were included. I wish it would just skip the telco completely and the updates come directly from the manufacturer.
Looks like a nice phone. I do wish that it had less bezel, especially given that the buttons are on-screen now. But that’s about the only complaint I have.
So when is Australia going to get Galaxy S2 LTE/4G version (hopefully with NFC)?

I understand the shit load of sleuthing you guys did to find this, but I hope you’re wrong!
Why would you want software buttons if the overall size of the phone isn’t smaller? It’s a waste of bezel and screen space…
Have a look at the image in the post, it does appear that the Nexus Prime doesn’t have a bigger bezel above and below the display, and we didn’t base our estimation off that image at all. We spent the hour going through FCC filings of the Galaxy S II and GT-i9250 (Nexus Prime) to compare the measurements they gave. They only measure where the radios sit inside the phone, so we put the measurements of the radios into the outline of the device in the FCC filing and it came up as 136mm x 68mm. Actually I was asking the same question too up until yesterday when I ran a VNC server on my Droid. I VNCed into my phone but using VNC I could not (I will be honest, I only spent about 1 minute on it so may be it’s too early to call) show my phone’s desktop because there wasn’t a software “Home” key in the interface so I pressed “Home” using the physical button on the phone. if there was a Home key on the interface I could just press that.
7mm longer than the SGSII HD? Last i saw your tweets the Prime was about the same length as the SGSII? bit disappointing but we will have to wait and see… damn this is going to be a long couple weeks until they do announce it (Oct 27 is latest rumour??)
