Andy Rubin has announced via his Twitter account (and Google Plus, apparently) that over the Christmas weekend — 24th & 25th — there were 3.7 million Android devices newly activated. The usual amount is around 700,000 a day, so they’ve increased the amount four-fold in those two days.
If you’re wondering how these ‘activations’ are qualified, Andy Rubin explains:
…and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.
I wonder if we’ll push 7-8 million activations next year. It’s an interesting and exciting we’ve got ahead of us.

“means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.”
^^ which I guess means that all those wireless only tablets don’t get counted too
I guess it would count you activating a Google Account on a new device that hasn’t been activated before.
Android is rocking day by day……. http://mirolta.com/2011/12/28/3-7-million-android-devices-activated-on-dec-24-and-25-andy-rubin/
