Acer quickly showed off a tablet whilst giving a presentation pre-CES 2012 and The Verge later got their hands on it to find out it’s the Acer Iconia Tab A700. The Iconia Tab A700 is pushing the boundaries for tablet specs with a 1.3GHz Quad-Core Tegra 3 CPU, 1920×1080 FHD Display and, of course, Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”. The release date is expected to be in the second quarter of this year — since we’re in Australia we can push that back a month or three. At 9.8mm the Iconia Tab A700 is fairly svelte in comparison to the older Toshiba Thrive, which is 16mm in thickness. For more photos of the tablet, check out the source link below.

I hope quad-core makes Android on tablets snappier. Admittedly I’ve only tried the tablets in stores (including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 today!), but it doesn’t seem to be very fluid at all and has lots of tiny stutters and low framerate in transitions.

I love Android on phones, but why does it seem so much slower and laggier on tablets? I really hope quad-core or ICS solves this. Would love this or the Transformer Prime, but until I can try them out I’ll probably end up getting an iPad 3…

I’d recommend you to wait a while, the most obvious reason for those lags are usually honeycomb so wait until they put a nicely speced ICS tablet in stores =)
hopefully the transformer prime with stock ICS will be pun on display in stores soon.

Agree it’s not the hardware. It’s really the software that is the issue. I know that XDA builds of ICS on the original Motorola Xoom are very very fast (much faster than Honeycomb). So it’s a software issue and not a hardware issue.

tablets CPU/GPU have to push more pixels…… More pixels equal more work and if the hardware isn’t cut out for it, yo will see lag.

Add in the the software issues that android has in the GUI dept and you get lag 🙁

Its not 1080p. They guy in the video says it is 1920 by 1200. freaking sweet, my 24″ has that resolution.

Competition for the Asus Transformer prime, I like it !!
