Last we heard we had confirmation from HTC that the HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL & HTC EVO 3D were getting Ice Cream Sandwich, we then found out at launch that the HTC Velocity 4G would be getting the upgrade as well. Overnight HTC has updated their Facebook page with a statement on when the update will arrive and they have also added more phones to the list :

HTC has been working hard to get its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades ready, and we’re excited to announce that our first round of ICS upgrades will roll out by the end of March for the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XE, followed soon there after by the HTC Sensation XL.

In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks.

All of the updates will arrive after of course the carriers ‘test’ the upgrade so add a bit more time on for the first round of upgrades for the Sensation phones. Great to see they`ve added the Desire HD to the list as it was a hugely popular phone here in Australia mainly due to the insane(at the time) size of the screen, also good to see the Incredible S and Desire S included as well and as HTC said stay tuned for more information on the updates.

Nice but I know it will include more forced bloatware from optus on my phone as it has with every previous update.

Why can’t Desire Z get it? and before someone craps on about how it doesn’t have the right specs, I’m running an ICS rom right now. Just because we purchased a phone that came out AFTER the Desire HD, means we cant get some Ice Creamy goodness?

if memory serves me well, the Desire Z wasn’t very popular (in sales) and was discontinued by HTC rather fast in comparison to other stuff if I’m not mistaken so HTC probably just don’t want to go through the trouble. It’s good enough for ICS, but then here comes the excuse HTC has given when they stopped updating a number of their more older phones as well, can it handle ICS + HTC Sense.

All going well they may release it for the G2 as that was stock android. This would at least give the DZ developers the drivers they are having issues with.

If the Desire HD gets it then it should look good for the Desire Z (hopefully…) One question – how well is your camera working on your custom ICS rom?

Also have a Desire Z, and I’d also love ICS. I’m rather disappointed at HTC for this, they have no comparable product so there’s nothing for me to upgrade to hardware wise. I don’t even need a full Sense update, just a plain ICS update with drivers. If they cared at all, they would at least pressure the tightlipped Qualcomm (who has the camera drivers) to release them as open source, but nah. My next phone will not be an HTC I’m afraid, I’m not staying with a company that ignores me as a customer.

After the carriers ‘test’ the upgrade. Pfft! I absolutely HATE the fact that the carriers have any say at all in it. I’m glad I’m using a custom ICS ROM on my Sensation already and don’t have to put up with the carrier garbage.
