Hold the phone folks, the Vodafone rollout of Jelly Bean to the Nexus S has been halted. Vodafone has just advised me that they have had to halt the update, according to the blog there are some issues. The full statement :

Important news

We’ve just been advised that due to a software issue, the roll-out the of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Vodafone Australia customers has been delayed.

It’s been advised the software currently does not meet all the Australian regulatory requirements related to emergency calls.

At this stage, we don’t have any further information on when the roll-out will resume, but as soon as we do, we’ll let you know here on the blog.

We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your patience at this time.

This may not be the end of the challenge if they can get a fix in place then they can still win. They still deserve credit for getting it out ASAP but regulatory requirements are no joking matter especially the ability to make emergency calls, please be advised we will update as soon as we hear anything further.

I got the official OTA couple of days ago…I just stuck in my overseas SIM into my Nexus S which I bought from Voda(stock unrooted ICS), and the JB update popped up. I applied it, apps working without a hitch, no dramas so far.

Hikari0307

The sim doesn’t play any role in that update I think.

twister286

Apparently it does…my Nexus is from Voda, and in the initial 2 days when they rolled the update out it was no dice.

When the update had seemingly been pulled from Voda’s site, several members on WP reported the system was only checking SIMs, not IMEIs…the OTA did not trigger with an Optus or Voda SIM, but when I inserted my SIM from overseas (which roams to Voda here), the update popped up.

My phone had ICS 4.0.4 stock, unrooted which had been done OTA by Voda.

Jimz

can anyone tell me when the rollout approximately will resume?

Sean Kavanagh

Well, this sure seems to have gone quiet….would love to know when we will see it happen since it seems to be rolling out overseas…

I will believe it when I see the notification on my phone. Good troll job Voda.

Dylan

… on gnex, not nexus s

read the article

Chris Rowe

wow just saw this. way to get snappy. either way I’d be 99.9% sure this is BS just like it always is.

nicholas

Can you guys just post the full article in the rss feed.. This is getting really tiresome.

Buzz Moody

We’ll do that when other sites don’t syndicate from it.

Greg

The ABC news RSS feed is truncated like Ausdroid, but somehow the same RSS drives Google Currents to create a magazine layout with the full content in-line. Not sure how its done, since none of my other non-syndicated RSS sites generates full articles in currents, but that could be a nice middle-ground to investigate.

Daniel Tyson

Google Currents is actually a heavily curated system, it’s not actually fed by the RSS feed.

Anyone know the issue? Just tried 000, 112, 911 from my nexus running 4.1.1 and it passed.

sav

from ota update ?

Level380

Manual flash of the ota file dropped to USA handsets.

Michael Neuling

You got a URL to this file?

Level380

check xda out, plus the howto guides had been posted everywhere on how to update manually.

Michael Neuling

I’ve been looking at xda for a while now and don’t see any official ota file drops for the Nexus S. I can see unofficial ASOP builds and CM10 builds, but not official ota file drops. Do you have a direct URL to the zip?

If they are everywhere, just give me one URL, please?!?!

Level380

Check my first comment out, I’m running the galaxy nexus on 4..1.1 and 000, 112, 911 works from the lock screen. I asked if anyone knew what was failing on the Nexus S. So I could check it.

can’t help you with a 4.1 OTA update for the Nexus S….

Michael Neuling

You’ve got to be kidding me… you’ve changed your first post from “nexus” to “galaxy nexus” now. Thanks for the misinformation. *sigh*

Level380

Stop being a cry baby cause you read it wrong…. Here go get your Nexus S OTA update.

Michael Neuling

Nice… I’ve not been trolled so well in a long while.

Level380

Well the art of trolling is a dying art!

Report back on how your nexus S JB update goes!

Michael Neuling

I’ve got the i9020T and it works a treat. I had to use Clockwork recovery as the stock recovery didn’t work (stock reports “status 7” error as reported by others in that thread).

Thanks for the link.. and the artful trolling 😛

I think deep down we all knew it was too good to be true.

Received Jelly Bean OTA on my Crazy Johns (aka Vodafone) Nexus S this morning.
Did they make it in time to win the challenge?

Daniel Tyson

If it is indeed going out this morning they win, the deadline was Saturday Morning. Just put a post up http://ausdroid.net/2012/08/09/vodafone-australia-nexus-s-owners-receiving-ota-jelly-bean-is-the-challenge-over/ I`m double checking with Vodafone now
