Machinarium

After my Machinarium article a couple of weeks ago, some of you noticed that the game was no longer visible in the Play Store. We now know the reason for this.

It seems that the publishers of Machinarium – Hothead Games, and the developers – Amanita Design have had a bit of a disagreement regarding this game.

Amanita Design have responded to questions on Facebook with the following statement

hi, we had to republished Machinarium for Android because the older version was published by Canadian publisher Hothead Games. the collaboration wasn’t ideal so we agreed to end it and publish the game again ourselves. unfortunately it’s not possible to change the publisher of the existing app so the older app was unpublished and we could publish the brand new app. the old app is still available for all who bought it so you don’t need to worry about it… it’s easy to update also the older version but it has to be done by our former Android publisher Hothead Games. we will send them all future updates.

So, if you are new to Machinarium, you can now purchase the game directly from Amanita Design and if you have previously purchased the game you can re-download it from within your apps history.

Although Amanita Design have stated that the old version will continue to receive updates I believe it will be up to Hothead Games to release these updates to the Play Store and only time will tell how quickly this will occur.

If you want to show your support for Amanita Design, you could always re-purchase the app and you will then be guaranteed to receive the updates as soon as they are available.

it is actually possible to change the publisher of an app on play store, I have done it myself. but it does take time and contacting google support to do it.
