Samsung Mobile US today tweeted the above image, teasing the appearance of its forthcoming Galaxy S IV device in silhouette. The device pictured looks not-dissimilar to the leaked in-hand pictures from China we saw this morning.

Bumping up the gamma on Samsung’s official image shows the screen area quite clearly. When placed side-by-side with this morning’s leak, it seems all but certain that we’ve seen the Galaxy S IV.

Still not convinced? OK, let’s overlay them:

Samsung’s official image is likely to be a render, modified to remove unsightly features like the speaker grille and the holes for the front-facing camera and light sensors, and subtly draw attention to the Samsung logo. That render is likely to be based on actual dimensions, which is why we’re comfortable matching the images.

One thing’s for sure – all will be revealed at Samsung’s Unpacked event.

Isn’t that proof the leak isn’t legit? Even the though the bezel is only an extra millimetre or so wider in the phone on the left, that’s actually a pretty big deal in the overall design of the phone, ie. they either use a different size display panel or the one on the left is a larger phone. Neither is really a minor detail.

Bugger! I have never been a fan of the overly rounded GS3, or the larger corner bend radius compared to the GS2. The Note 2 looks better, but a stretched GS2 profile would be a winner. Design aside, I’m sure the hardware will kick arse and raise the bar again

Another reason why I don’t buy Samsung any more.

Wow. Looks just like my S3.

But how is anyone going to now I upgraded my non-Apple device? I can hear it now “Oh is that a Galaxy S3?” Oh the humanity!

That’s like asking if someone is using an iPhone 4 when it could be a 4S
