Huawei has begun sending out invites to the launch of a new phone next week and from the looks of the size of the phone pictured we’re willing to bet that the phone is the Huawei Ascend Mate.
Announced back at CES in January this year the Ascend Mate certainly pushes the boundaries when it comes to both screen size and Battery. The Ascend Mate comes with a massive 6.1″ display which incorporates ‘Magic Touch’, a technology that allows for users to still operate the phone even when wearing gloves, certainly something to think about with winter coming on. Battery wise a 4,050 mAh battery is not going to leave you wanting more very often.
The Ascend Mate also comes with the first instance of the Huawei Emotion UI. Huawei has traditionally used a stock Android experience or simply added a third party launcher on-top. It will be interesting to see exactly what enhancements and features the Emotion UI will bring to the party.
- 6.1″ HD(720×1280) IPS+ LCD Display
- 1.5 GHz Quad-core Huawei K3V2 CPU
- 2GB RAM
- 8GB onboard with MicroSD card slot(up to 64GB)
- 8MP Rear Camera with 1MP Front Facing Camera
- Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4(BLE)
- Android 4.2 with Emotion UI
- 4,050mAh Battery
- 163.5×85.7×9.9 mm @ 198 grams
The Ascend Mate has been available to pre-order from Harvey Norman since the middle of last month and will set you back $429 but includes a $40 Boost unlimited pre-paid starter kit that includes unlimited Talk, Text and MMS and 3GB of data. So, if you pre-ordered the phone from Harvey Norman your order may be about to come in.
We’ll know more about the phone, it’s features as well as the important things such as availability once the launch is over. Watch the @AusdroidLive twitter account for details during the launch.
A phone is a device you can pocket in my opinion and you can do exactly that with the Ascend Mate.
I won’t be holding mine up to my ear next week when I collect it. That’s what the hands free headset is for.
Sure it doesn’t have a 1080p screen or 4g, but at $429 who cares.
Is ausdroid going to do a review? 🙂
If we get our hands on a review device, yes, we’ll be reviewing it. We’re arranging someone to attend the launch next week as we speak.
Awesome can’t wait! Thx guys! It’d be a world first review too if you can get yourself onto a demo unit for any reasonable space of time. Wanting to purchase it but am awaiting some real world reviews. Have doubts about the UI, camera and general android OS support from Huawei as they don’t have great track records with updates or XDA community uptake.
What’s the emotion UI like? Bloated? Or pretty smooth sailing.
Not a clue, really cannot wait to get my hands on it. The stock experience on Huawei has been one of the benefits of Huawei devices so far, it will be interesting to see if the Emotion UI Adds or detracts from the Android experience.
Is this perfect for Ingress or what?
This is a use case that I hadn’t considered but 4,050mAh battery would be brilliant for Ingress!!
Was very interested until I saw that the screen is 720p.
Maaate.
Strangely desirable.
Cannot wait to actually hold this thing, I’m strangely intrigued by this phone. I have a soft spot for Huawei as they’ve done some good low-mid range devices I’ve used previously. It’ll be good to see what they can do with a phone design this size.
