nexus-7-analyst

Everybody loves a good analyst, especially when they have solid predictions of technology we love. Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities has released a research note that sets out potential (yes, it’s only a prediction) specs of the refreshed Nexus 7 that’s sure to be announced at Google I/O later this month.

The most exciting parts of the potential specs are these:

  • Android 4.3 — No time for the big 5.0 jump it seems
  • 7-inch LTPS 1920×1200 Display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU (APQ8064)
  • 5MP Rear Camera / ‘HD’ Front Camera
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC
  • 4,000mAh Battery with Qi charging

Pricing, you ask? Well Google and Asus — yes, Asus are continuing to make the Nexus 7 — are planning to keep pricing at the same as the current offerings, with the potential to knock the pricing right down on older models, iPad style.

Expect to see a design similar to what we’re used to in the Nexus 7, except with a smaller bezel around the edges and plastic casing around the outside. Are you tempted yet?

This sounds good to me. After using a Nexus 4 and Xperia Z I know that APQ8064 is capable of running this excellent display and Jelly Bean easily. 2GB RAM is, in my opinion the right amount for a great Android experience. The 1GB of memory in the GNex and Nex7 seems to limit the potential of those devices, as do their respective processors. If a smaller battery is used to make the case slimmer I’m not sure that I care too much, as long as efficiency is found in the SOC and OS to compensate for it. I never… Read more ยป

Smaller bezels around the edges is the way to go.

Outstanding features if it turns out to be true. The slight lag on the N7 is the only thing turning me off of using it 100% of the time. Overall epic hardware for reasonable prices.

That resolution would be the only thing I’m suprised with. Find it hard to believe *premium* tablets do not come with a better screen res but the most budget minded bang-for-buck one will??? I sincerely hope it does. Get a kickstart on the minis and lets see some real comp. Hopefully a design refresh too. Personal opinion there.

Obvious specs. I’m not an analyst and I thought they’d be something along those lines. Oh and Snapdragon 600, not S4 pro.
