Acer has today announced the availability of the Acer Iconia A1-810 tablet. An 8″ Android tablet that is aimed at the ‘modern day explorers, adventurers and mobile executives’. Priced at $249 the A1 is a pretty decent tablet, offering some pretty decent specs in a compact size.

Tablets are becoming cherished companions to many people as they stay connected and entertained throughout their day. We want everyone to experience that so we created a tablet experience in a smaller, more portable design. Everything that makes tablets so enjoyable is even better on the perfectly-sized Acer Iconia A1-810.
In this form factor, the A1 is taking on array of tablets, including the Nexus 7, Asus MemoPad as well as their own lower end 7″ Tablet the Acer B1. With a slightly larger screen size the A1 offers a 7.9″ IPS display which has a resolution of 1024×768 with a 4:3 aspect ratio which is more reminiscent of an iPad than your average Android tablet.

Software wise, it features Acer’s new Touch WakeApp that give users one-touch access to their favourite apps. To use the WakeApp option, you can either place all five fingers from one hand on the screen or both thumbs. This wakes the tablet, unlocks it, sets up the orientation and opens the pre-determined application. There is even an option to set a different app to each gesture.
The Iconia A1-810, which has been released elsewhere in 3G/4G varieties is only available with Wi-Fi in Australia, no mention of whether this will be changed in the future. The tablet is available now on the Acer Web Store for $249 with free shipping.

Same batteries that have been going into smartphones and tablets for ages. Basically it’s only a soft cover around the battery so it has to be enclosed in something else as well, in this case the tablet.
