Ausdroid reader Benedict wrote to let us know that HP‘s Slatebook X2 hybrid tablet has gone on sale in Perth. Benedict spotted the device on sale over the weekend at JB Hifi.
There’s two models of the Slatebook doing the rounds in Australian stores – a 16 GB version, carrying an RRP of $649 and a 64 GB version that’s exclusive to JB Hifi with an RRP of $749.
It seems that JB HiFi has been offering the 64 GB model on sale for $697. The device isn’t listed on their website, so you might want to visit your local store to see it in person.
Dick Smith Electronics also has the 16 GB model listed on their website, currently on sale for $509. Dick Smith says this is 15% off, which makes their normal price around $599.
The Slatebook X2 is HP’s first Android hybrid convertible Android tablet, offering the following specs:
- 10.1″ diagonal WUXGA LED-backlit IPS Touchscreen (1920 x 1200)
- NVIDIA Tegra 4
- 2 GB RAM (1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM)
- Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth
- Full HD rear camera (f2.0, 2.0MP, 1080p, fixed focus, low light enhancement)
- HP TrueVision front-facing camera (f2.0, 720p, fixed focus, low light enhancement)
- Dual Speakers
- Android 4.2
We’re hoping to get our hands on a Slatebook X2 for review soon.

Fixed focus cameras? So only good for videoconferencing at a particular distance from the device? Is that the same as standard webcams built into laptops/desktops?
Oh and where are the speakers located? I don’t think I’d get a tablet without stereo speakers mounted on either side of the screen on the front, Nexus 10 style…
Well as a result of this post, I’ve went against my better judgement and bought one. There I did it. Just blew $509 on something that I like but didn’t really need. Hope you’re happy, Ausdroid.
😉
Whats th battery size and is micro sd mentioned
Im keen. Asus hasnt updated the Transformer line for a while.
Just curious to see how it goes with community support and such first. Also if hp has put some skin on there or not.
Definitely looks interesting. I’d like to see some gaming benchmarks to get an idea how the tegra 4 performs on a 1200p screen. Other tegra 4 devices only sport 800p screens as far as I know. Also not sure how good Android and the keyboard would be for productivity but I’d be keen to give it a go 🙂
I’m really tempted to get one. I’ve really don’t have a need to purchase one as I’ve already have the Nexus 7 but damn…
But does it run WebOS?
Nope, it runs Android 4.2.2. HP has close WebOS some time ago.
I was being subtle 😛 Yes, 4.2.2.
Lol! My bad.
All good 🙂 HA ha ha
Actually… WebOS is now open sourced… now called open webos.
So it still lives… but with hardly any support!!
