Australian Android fans have woken to some welcome and overdue news this morning. The Nexus 7 (2013) has arrived on the Play Store in all its glory, available for purchase right now.
On the Play Store listing, the Nexus 7 is available in the three configurations we already knew about, as below:
- 16GB WiFi only model for $299
- 32GB WiFi only model for $339
- 32GB WiFi and LTE for $439
All these options include free shipping for a limited time. The Nexus 7 Sleeve (a neoprene arrangement that looks rather special) is also now available, but at a price of $39.95, there may not be too many takers; it’s rather expensive for a case.
However, these prices are not necessarily the best prices available. Online retailer Kogan is discounting the base model Nexus 7 at the moment (but not for long) so you can save money by buying elsewhere.
However, those looking to purchase through an official channel, you now have that option.
Bought my 32gb model from JB Hifi @ Strathpine QLD for $320
Wifi only 32Gb, or LTE?
I wish it had LTE, but alas, WIFI only.
$320 sounds pretty good. Just wondering if you had to bundle it with something else to get that price or was it a straight discount for N7 only? I need ammo before talking with those guys LOL
No I just haggled a bit to be honest, it’s the only thing I bought. JB Hifi are very reasonable, but it certainly helps if you’re buying something else.
Hope that helps you!
$439 for an N7 2013 that is only partially useable on Australian 4G, no sale. Without support for ALL the Australian 4G bands, that price tag isn’t worth the mark up on the WiFi only model.
Exactly how many 4G networks do you use? Surely you just use the one…
$100 just for LTE seems a bit much.
Interesting. Appears we’re getting the US version of the LTE model, which doesn’t support the 2600MHz TD-LTE which Optus is rolling out. Pity.
Actually we appear to have gotten a hybrid. A third sku it seems. The US Version ships with :
4G LTE: 700/750/850/1700/1900/2100 MHZ (Bands: 1/2/4/5/13/17)
While the European version ships with :
4G LTE: 800/850/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 MHz (Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/20)
So, interestingly we seem to have a third option shipping with :
4G LTE: 700/850/1700/1800/1900/2100 MHz
Frustratingly, as you point out, no Optus 4G Plus support though.
You’re right, Daniel. I didn’t really take note of the other 4G frequencies.
Still, it only matters if you’re on the Optus network. I haven’t read about any of the other service providers planning a launch on the 2600MHz frequency … yet.
Being an Optus customer in Canberra, I am so screwed…..
I just recently activated a data only Optus sim to use with my newly acquired toy. I’m screwed too … :p
