Reports from SamMobile suggest that three of the biggest Samsung devices of the last 18 months will be receiving Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates in a matter of weeks.
The volume, frequency and accuracy of SamMobile’s information in the past suggests they’ve got inside sources at Samsung, so when they talk about software updates, we listen.
According to the site, the Galaxy S4 will receive the update in early- to mid-October, followed by the Galaxy S III in late October / early November, and the Galaxy Note II in late November / early December.
Of course, these will likely hit unlocked devices first – if you’ve purchased your device from a carrier, you’ll have to wait for them to approve the update.

Still stuck on 4.1.2 on my GT-I9300.
I haven’t flashed 4.2 because:
a) I want to keep my warranty
b) I can’t be bothered
my s4 is bought outright hopefully the update comes sooner than later
Apple 1 week for software update. Google (except Nexus) 3+ months for software update. Do the telcos give special treatment to testing iPhone updates? What gives?
As far as I’m aware telcos aren’t allowed to mess with iOS so the updates don’t come from telcos but straight from apple.
So why don’t Android manufacturers do the same?
Because Google didn’t put the same restriction on Android OS for manufacturers/telcos so they had free reign to add whatever they want to it. The problem is that when there’s an Android update from Google they(manufacturers/telcos) have to go back to the drawing board and figure out if their changes to android are still going to work with the latest Google Update but this is after the Android update is publicly available.
Android has multiple hardware differences with different drivers that all have to be updated and tested in addition to the OS. This explains some of the delay on the manufacturers side. As to the telcos, I think you’ll find that’s mostly their incompetence/not caring.

although I appreciate the carriers taking their time in evaluating software updates, it does concern me that it takes forever to complete. they almost force you to use international version of updates as the world will not wait for our major carriers to release them . I have been using the international 4.2.2 for months and it has not failed me yet. so I wonder why the long wait in testing

Look it up in google plenty of articles explaining what they need to do and why it takes so long. I think ausdroid even wrote one at my stage?
It doesn’t really explain anything. The article I read was telco press release bullshite. The site publishing it I think was Ausdroid and they didn’t believe the telcos. Look it up yourself before misrepresenting it.
