Telstra and HTC are bringing the HTC Desire brand back to where it all started. After launching the original HTC Desire back in April 2010, Telstra are continuing with the brand, by launching the HTC Desire 300.
The HTC Desire 300 is aimed as an entry level device, but still includes a nicely sized 4.3″ screen and is being positioned in the Telstra pre-paid line-up as a great Christmas present.

- 1GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 SoC
- 512MB RAM
- 4GB On-Board storage with microSD Card Slot
- 5MP Rear Camera with AF and VGA Front-Facing camera

While it has some low end specifications, the Desire 300 will still come with one of the flagship features introduced on the flagship HTC One – BlinkFeed. Featuring high quality news sources – including Ausdroid – as well as sports scores, social media feeds and more, Blinkfeed is often cited as a defining feature of the current implementation of HTC Sense.
Both Telstra and HTC are excited by the introduction of the HTC Desire 300 into the Telstra range, with Garry McGregor, HTC Sales Director, Australia and New Zealand stating :
We’re very excited to welcome the latest edition to our Desire family in the form of the HTC Desire 300 with Telstra.
The HTC Desire 300 is a must-have, especially as we head into the holiday season. You can treat yourself or your family members to the ultimate Christmas gift and unwrap a product that offers a stunning design and provides more customers with the benefits of premium social features such as HTC BlinkFeed at a budget.
Andrew Volard, Telstra Director of Devices, said he was looking forward to providing the HTC Desire to Telstra pre-paid customers.
The HTC Desire 300 is a great addition to the HTC family at Telstra and I’m sure it will be a popular choice for customers who are after a high-quality but affordable pre-paid smartphone, particularly coming into the festive season.
The HTC Desire 300 will be priced at $179 and be available at Telstra stores from Tuesday, the 29th of October.
I’d pay the extra $20 and get an xperia m
I think $179 is a fair price for this phone. And I will be visiting the Telstra shop on Thursday to purchase one of these phones for my son. Just like the original Desire (which I still have as a backup and getting 2 weeks of battery life out of it on stand-by), maybe the Desire brand will be HTC’s salvation. Especially if they keep bringing them out at this price. I was hoping the 601 was better priced than it is.
i think it should be added to this that the s4 soc is the s4 play which is a dual core a5 chip and adreno 203 graphics.
$179 is a fair price for this phone methinks, especially given HTC’s great build quality.
I had the original Desire in 2010, and still love HTC’s
