A bit over a week ago, we took the beta wraps of our own Android app, Ausdroid News, and released it onto the Play Store. We’ve had over 500 installs since, and we think it’s fair to say, the feedback has been glowing. We’re very happy with how well the app has been received, and we’re grateful to you guys, our readers, for the feedback we’ve received.
Hot on the heels of our first release, taking account of some of the most common items raised in feedback with us, we’ve pushed out version two straight to the Play Store, bypassing the alpha and beta channels that currently exist. We didn’t want to keep these changes from you, because you’ve asked for them.
Version two sports the following new features (and more may well be coming):
- Pull to refresh is now enabled. Try it out!
- Customisable font size for story view, to make it easier to read.
- Less aggressive network polling, which means less battery use.
- Misc bug fixes.
We’re still working on the best way to disable ads, and we hope to have a fix for this in place within the next week or two for those that want to support Ausdroid in a different way. We hope you’ll understand out decision to incorporate ads into the app, because it is this advertising revenue which keeps Ausdroid running, and if the app didn’t display ads, then we’d forgo that revenue for lost site visits. In other words, we’ve got to make sure that we can keep running so we can keep delivering your news, or there’s no point in having an app!
The update has been pushed out to the Play Store this morning, so you should start receiving update notifications later today.
Great App! Love the notifications, now I don’t need to constantly refresh!
I have a couple of suggestions.
1. I would pay for a Pro Ad Free version.
2. I cant seem to log into discuss from app. It keeps taking me to Google and asking me to sign in there but there’s no option to sign in with my Google ID
“item not found” has it been removed ๐
Love the app, can’t believe I missed the original release. My constructive suggestions are : 1. Not to copy but the best functionality I have seen in a media app is android central. When you click on a Web link in google + it opens in the native app which is faster then Web. Can you include the same. It is handled like a default app so ppl who don’t like it can choose not to. 2. Comments please. I’m sure you’re already on this. 3. Some way of seeing (such as bold to non bold heading) What you have… Read more ยป
