It seems Australian carriers are gearing up for the Christmas period with various offerings. The latest comes from Optus, offering the Huawei Ascend Y210 Android powered smartphone for $79 on pre-paid.
As you might expect, an ground-floor price gets you ground-floor specs. The Y210 isn’t going to set the world on fire:
- 3.5″ TFT capacitive touchscreen (165 ppi)
- 512 MB ROM
- 256 MB RAM
- 1 GHz Cortex-A5 CPU
- Adreno 200 GPU
- Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon chipset
- 2 MP rear facing camera
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot
- Android v2.3.6 (Gingerbread)
- Connectivity: 3G: 900 / 2100 MHz
Remember, this is a sub-$100 phone. GSM Arena has the phone’s full specs.
The device is currently listed as “out of stock” on Optus’ site, but is available in-store or through retail partners (Kmart, Coles, Target, etc).
Are you in the market for a cheap Android smartphone? Does the Huawei Ascend Y210 tickle your fancy?

Things like this Huawei need to actively be prevented from being sold, as they are on a far too old version of Android.
Just got the Huawei G300 yesterday from target for my daughter. It was $79 on special. Seems ok, it has better specs than this phone
