Recently Samsung announced that they have sold 800 000 Galaxy Gear watches, and rolled out an update that allows the watch to show any notification, which is a significant usability enhancement. Well, the good news keeps on coming for owners of the Gear, as the first custom Rom is now available for those that like to flash and tinker with their devices.
The ROM is called Null, and is built by Australian developer FOMEY. Null features Nova Launcher, video recording increased to 60 seconds, live wallpaper support, a full featured web browser, Google Play access, calendar/contacts sync and more. It also has Bluetooth tethering, so any device that has Bluetooth can support the watch – a major advancement as previously Samsung limited support only to their top tier devices such as the Note 3 and Galaxy S4.
If you are confident in your flashing skills, Null is available on XDA here. A video demonstration of the download/recovery mode of the Galaxy Gear is here.

Ars Technica is reporting that the 800k figure is how much they’ve _shipped_ – not how much they’ve sold. So the figure includes inventory being held, returns – Best Buy says 30% return rate – and bundled giveaways that carriers have included with the Note, and of course the inventory held by the carriers for those giveaways.
Ars thinks it’s too early to know how much of that inventory will ever be in end user hands.
then take in to account how many are still on order and not shipped yet0 you will take back a big share of deductions.
Latest Gear update on S4 doesn’t show any notification. Hangout still says check the phone and WhatsApp don’t appear.
Being able to use Galaxy Gear with any Android phone is worth the price of admission on it’s own!
For sure
how about you do a full comparison between the gear,gear2 and the gear 1 running null 23
it will open up to more devices. It’s merely locked to these to grow sales for the new flagships. But being Samsung it will open up to 2 or 3 more then support will stop and NEW phone will come out to do the same task.. lol google will produce their own soon which will work cross the platform
