Sony has announced that their Android 4.4.4 update for the Xperia Z, Xperia Z Tablet and Xperia ZR and ZL handsets has begun rolling out.
According to the tweet announcing the start of the rollout, the update brings with it ‘fixes, battery, wifi & email improvements and more’. The update will begin hitting handsets purchased outright from Sony, but carrier based handsets will have a while to wait just a little longer.
Vodafone advises on their latest software update blog, that the status for the Android 4.4.4 update for the Xperia Z is ‘Testing in progress’. Optus actually advises that the Xperia Z is already on Android 4.4.4….which we find hard to believe based on the update just being released. Finally, Telstra seem to only be testing the Android 4.4.2 update.
The Xperia ZR and ZL were never sold on-contract in Australia, nor was the Xperia Z Tablet, so those of you who purchased them at retail should see their updates imminently. We love to hear about your updates so tweet us, email us or let us know in the comments when your update hits.

Nothing so far on my Tablet Z, but seeing as the last update took nearly 3 months to show up after it was announced I’m not terribly surprised.
Telstra is much slower than every other Australian carrier at rolling out updates. If you care about timely updates to your phone DON’T BUY A TELSTRA PHONE!
