It’s been a year since LG brought us the flexible, if slightly oversized G Flex, and now it seems that the company might indeed be preparing a more modest-sized successor to address the size concerns, as rumoured back in September.
The information comes from reporter Dawn Lily of Israeli technology site Ynet who recently visited LG in Korea. During her tour, she claims to have seen a device in the R&D labs in a “field test” featuring a similar curved screen to the 2013 model G Flex, but smaller.
It’s actually been a while since we heard about a new G Flex. Back in May, we heard that LG executives were planning to launch a G Flex 2 later this year, while the September rumour we mentioned earlier said the successor would be smaller, and would arrive before the end of the year.
In the meantime, Google’s made a wave in the larger end of the market with the Nexus 6 which pushes Android device size back up towards the 6 inch range of the original G Flex, and Apple’s brought the iPhone 6 Plus to market as well. Maybe bigger phones are cool again.
Was LG a little ahead of its time with the original G Flex, or is it hoping to get the right mix of size and flexibility this time around? The clock is running down on 2014 pretty quickly, so we’re hoping to hear something more on this “G Flex Mini” soon.
Would you be interested in a smaller G Flex? Tell us in the comments!
Every now and again I step into the Preston Harvey Norman store, and they still have a Flex on sale for about $700. I think it has been sitting there for a year with no takers. And I pick it up and it is still a cool cool phone. I even like that it is 6″.
So, yeah. I’ll give a new Flex, made by the LG that makes the G3, a look over.
make it 5″ and i’m sold…less than 5″ i’m angry ;p
