z3andz3cSony started releasing a minor update for its Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact line back on December 11th apparently, but we’re only now finding out what it actually involved. That said, we haven’t actually received the update yet, but at least we know what will be in the update when it does land on Australian devices.

The changelog for build 23.0.1.A.5.77 (what a long version code!) contains:

  • Enhanced audio volume in notifications and ringtones
  • New Xperiaâ„¢ camera app: Portrait retouch
  • Improved Exchange ActiveSync performance
  • Fine-tuned audio for speakerphone
  • Stability and performance improvements

Those astute observers will note that this changelog notably does not include an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is what I’d much rather have than a new camera feature. But hey, we do know that Sony are working on Lollipop for the Z3 so hopefully we see that early next year.

I recommend not updating as the battery life seems to be affected in a bad way.
It doesn’t seem to be related to your apps, but simply that the phone’s radio uses more power.
I noticed a 10-20% drain overnight, even if data, sync, Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, NFC was turned off.
Before that, it was only around 2-6% (using basic Stamina mode).

I have the update I was able to get it via Sony’s PC companion program. It was shown on the update center app, however it requires you to update on the computer.

Furthermore I have been hounding sony and my carrier (optus) as to when lollipop will be ready not sure if ausdroid knows any better then myself. I got nothing 🙂
