xperia z3Sony didn’t have a great deal to announce during CES 2015, leading to speculation (and really, the strong likelihood) that it would be announcing something at MWC 2015 instead. Many of us — myself included — are looking forward to what Sony has in store for this year, as the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact have been a big success in the latter half of 2014.

It seems that the cat may be well and truly out of the bag, though, with the rumoured Xperia Z4 recently certified in Japan. Four models have been certified — PM-0792-BV, PM-0793-BV, PM-0794-BV — which equates to one for each of the Japanese mobile carriers.

While we don’t profess to be experts at reading Japanese, we can decipher enough from the posts to know that they’ve past through the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications late last year, and the certificates are now being advertised.

Given the timeframe and (limited) specifications referred to, it seems likely that we’re looking at the early certification of the Xperia Z4, which will probably make an appearance at the FCC a little closer to the end of February.

There’s been no official word from Sony, of course, and they’ve remained mum on what’s coming for MWC 2015. We’ll see what’s coming soon enough.

I’m still loving my Z1 Compact. Can’t wait to see what what Sony does next.

Go for it Sony.

You say that four models have been certified, yet you only list three models, PM-0792-BV, PM-0793-BV, PM-0794-BV.
What is the fourth model?

I’m keeping a close eye on Sony, HTC and LG throughout 2015. For the first time in a number of years I’m considering a non-Nexus phone. I think Lollipop on some uncompromising flagship OEM hardware could be a really killer package.

Agreed. Of course none will be good enough for school teacher Jeni.
