Virtual Reality is hot right now and Google is looking to have Android power the next generation of headsets according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal.
According to the reports, Google has ‘Tens of engineers’, lead by lay Clay Bavor and Jeremy Doig. working on a project which would make Android the power behind next gen VR applications. Google has apparently moved forward with the project after what seems to be a positive reception to their low-cost VR platform, Cardboard, which Bavor was partly responsible in creating.
VR is also big with Android OEMs with Samsung, HTC and even Sony all releasing AR or VR headsets. If Google can leverage the reach and scale of Android to power the latest craze in tech, it could be a winner. With Google I/O coming up in May, we could see more of this in the very near future.
