Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge - Model
The upcoming global launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on Friday, with their new Aluminium and Glass design, is raising a number of questions for potential customers regarding durability of the phones. To try and answer these questions Samsung has released a video to try and address these questions.

First and foremost with Glass a major component of the phones build material, is the question of whether it will shatter is a big one. We’ve seen videos of people mis-treating the phone and it surviving seemingly unscathed. Samsung however has decided to show off their official version of the stress tests they’ve put the phone under before unveiling it.

Samsung has summed up the video and the results :

  • Both Galaxy S6 and S6 edge feature Gorilla Glass 4, one of the toughest glasses available on mobile devices.
  • Components like the frame, glass, bracket and others are also structured to share the shock from first and follow-up impacts, ultimately reducing the possibility of breakage.
  • The 6013 aluminum metal frame is designed to hit the surface before the glass if the device is dropped in order to protect the display – even Galaxy S6 edge.

The phones look pretty hardy and even with my own personal aversion to glass backs on phones, this is enough to make me think twice. If you’re grabbing a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge, make sure you tell us in the poll we’re running, and let us know in the comments why you’re choosing a normal Galaxy S6 over the Edge, or vice-versa.

I guess owners will feel better now knowing that if the drop their phone into a sterile testing pit without a concrete floor it will survive.

While the drop test machine is good, since it can repeatedly simulate ordinary drops on devices, I agree that it would be better if the machine was mobile, so it could be set up anywhere outdoors or indoors, to do the tests on Real World surfaces. Pavement tiles, metal grates, concrete footpaths, road bitumen, and worst of all; the top of a staircase with metal edged treads.

Seriously, some people could bitch about anything. Its better than a kick up the ass. Just enjoy something for once.
