Sony’s Android 5.0 rollout has well and truly begun, with their Xperia Z3 phones and tablets nearly completed, and now it’s onto the next generation of devices according to Sony, who announced the updates to the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet are now underway.
In a pair of tweets, Sony announced the update, as well as commented on the Lollipop update for the generation after that, as well as the last remaining Z3 device – the Z3 Dual – which will follow next week. According to Sony, the Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will be next, followed by the T2 Ultra and C3, before finally the original Xperia Z series.

Timings on the updates will be announced as soon as Sony understandably lines them up.
The updates are obviously not for carrier branded devices which have to undertake a stringent testing phase. Checking the Xperia Z2 status at the various carriers in Australia, we found that just this week, Vodafone failed the Android 5.0 update for the Xperia Z2 (as well as the Z3) and is awaiting new software. Optus has the update and is currently testing it and expects the Android 5.0 update for the Z2 (as well as the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact) to be released in mid-April. Telstra has scheduled the update for the Xperia Z2 (and Xperia Z3) for the 13th of April.
If you have an Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z2 Tablet, you can always check the software update tab to see if there’s something on offer, and make sure you let us know when you get the prompt.
there has been no 6653 (asia / Pac Z3 ) .690 FW released…. all regions for 6603 has been released… some over at XDA believe that there was an issue and that 6653 won’t get .690. This line of thinking comes from the fact that there was another FW release .298 that was certified for both 6653 (Z3) and 5803 (Z3C) just a few days ago….
Either a bug fix or moving straight to 5.1

Same here. No update notifications on my Z3. I might try hooking it up to the Sony PC companion application to see if theres one
I got it on my Z3 Tablet. It’s not OTA though. You jabber to dismiss out and install via PC using Sony PC software. Was 5.0.2.
I’ve received 5.0.2 on my Z2 tablet, but still waiting on my Optus Z2!
It’s bad enough waiting six months for the manufacturer to roll out the update. Having the carriers then find faults is painful. I’d love to know what faults are found to warrant a new version.
