Google has announced at Google IO 2015 something that users have been wanting for a very long time — the ability to store an unlimited number of high resolution, quality photos and videos, forever. Yes, that’s right — Google will allow users to store 16MP photos and 1080p videos without any downsizing, and in as higher quantity and for as long as you want, at no cost.

Photos can be uploaded at a higher resolution, of course, and there’s no need for users to downsize their photos to take advantage; Google will do this automatically where required. Videos will receive the same treatment.

This means that we may see removal of paid storage tiers for photo storage at least, but of course there’s not a great deal of detail just yet.
