Australian developer Chris Lacy has dropped something of a bombshell on his blog this morning, announcing that he has sold Link Bubble, TapPath and all related assets to a US company – a startup that will make itself known when it’s ready.
Chris’ post revealed that the apps have required more resources and know-how than he can put into them as an independent company, potentially restricting their development and growth.
This all puts this tweet from Chris from last week into new perspective, too:

As a part of this sale and progress towards the future, Link Bubble has seen a huge update today which includes material design overhaul, support for HTML drop down elements, colored toolbars, custom domain redirects, translations for 6 new languages and a wealth of bug fixes.
If you’re unaware of the capabilities of Link Bubble, it is a web browser that loads your links in the background rather than chewing up valuable time watching your page load – hugely valuable if you, like many other users see links on Twitter, Facebook or other apps and don’t want to leave the app when you load links. Link Bubble has proven hugely popular within the Ausdroid team and beyond.
Don’t worry though, Chris isn’t disappearing and will remain at the helm of the hugely popular Action Launcher 3.
No, Action Launcher remains with me. https://t.co/M65VgJbFYm

Future development of these apps is sure to continue to make news, and once the new owners of TapPath and Link Bubble announce themselves we’re sure there’ll be an update with more information on who they are and what they’re doing with the apps.
Which of Chris Lacy apps have you grabbed from the Play Store? Whats your favourite?
Who do you think brought it? The way he’s talking sounds like its not a new startup.
I have purchased Tap Path, Action Launcher 3 and Link Bubble.
Link bubble would be alot better if you could actually browse the web on it too with auto reader mode active.
He interviewed the PushBullet CEO on his podcast….maybe?
I use PushBullet daily would love to see where they take it! 😀

Likewise! My fav tv show of all time!
Definitely. It’s incredible.
I am grateful for this sale as Link Bubble was obviously neglected – whether Chris had the capacity or not to maintain it – but it was riddled with bugs and practically un-usable. Disappointing especially for those who paid for the app. Looking forward to Link Bubble returning to the fast and stable app it once was.
