Huawei watch fcc

Following this week’s rumor that the ‘Huawei Watch’ will be launched amongst good company at IFA 2015 in Berlin, tonight we have spotted what appears to be a similarly round device in the Huawei TalkBand fitness trackers, the TalkBand B0.

The rear of the device looks a little like a cross between a Moto 360 and the Huawei watch. The FCC filing Huawei described the devices as:

HUAWEI TalkBand B0 is a smart wrist band that integrates functions of sports assistance, sleep monitoring. It helps you learn about your health status. The B0 can connect to a phone or tablet through Bluetooth. Download and install the B0 app on the phone to easily manage data of the B0. The B0 supports the following (1) Step counting (2) Calory (sic) calculation (3) Sports target setting (4) Sleep statistics collection (5) Event reminder (5) Smart alarm.

As the device does not have “telling the time” as one of its functions and it is listed as only having a 70mAh battery we suspect that it either has a very low power screen such as an e-ink display or no display at all. The device includes Bluetooth 4.0 and a rechargeable battery but no Wi-Fi is mentioned in the SAR reports.

Initially, we thought this might be the much anticipated Huawei Watch however comparing the technical images to known images of the Huawei Watch from MWC, the lack of heart rate monitor in the Talkband B0, as well as the lack of WiFi and the small battery, and the product description lining up with current functionality of Huawei’s fitness trackers, it leads us to believe that Huawei is planning to have one more wearable device up their sleeve in Berlin.

The smart band space continues to be an area where many manufacturers are attempting to make inroads, noticeably missing from the description provided is notification support and media control. It seems Huawei is positioning this as a health and fitness band first and foremost rather than an entry level “SmartWatch”. IFA 2015 is not far away now so we won’t have long to wait until our on-the-ground reporters bringing us all of the announcements as they happen.

Are you excited to see Huawei continue to iterate on the smart band category of devices? Let us know.
