The rumours for the Nexus phone, or phones as the case may be after last years dual launch is heating up, with new rumours surfacing today that HTC is currently working on two phones for Google called the ‘M1 and S1’.
The HTC rumours have been circulating for some time, with the original leak talking about a 3-year deal for the Taiwanese manufacturer contracted to build Nexus devices for Google. This mornings rumour, started with noted internet leaker Evan Blass through his @evleaks Twitter account when he tweeted out this gem, certainly adds some high level credence to those early rumours:

The rumour is also seemingly being confirmed by the team over at Android Police, who believe that the devices are being developed under the codenames Marlin And Sailfish, backed up by references to ‘Marlin’ by a Qualcomm engineer in the Google Code-source.
Further evidence is also mounting, with a GeekBench entry surfacing after Evans Tweet was sent out of a ‘Nexus 6P’ with a quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and Android N on board, as well as the rather telling Motherboard name of ‘Marlin’. The device also scored a markedly different score than previous Nexus 6P phones have in the past.
The rumours for the next round of HTC built Nexus devices focus again on a dual launch, with two screen sizes – 5″ and 5.5″ – rumoured to be announced. The dual launch strategy worked last time for Google with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, though the smaller 5″ model could certainly do with being given a premium ‘5P’ version this year.
Stick this one in the ‘pretty solid’ bin with the rest of the rumours folks and we’ll see how this plays out.
Now this would be very interesting. If it’s somewhat close to the HTC 10 in design and build, that’d make me very excited.
Mac sent me.
Unfortunately, the last couple of Nexus rollouts have made it clear that I’m not going to be able to afford a new Nexus but if it is really popular it might help bring the price of a 6P down to within my budget.
Watch how I offload my several Nexus 6ps onto Gumtree
once these new Nexi 2016 come out.
Several?
Yeah… I think I’ll try to pick one up from a responsible owner if it’s all the same to you 😉
I’d jump at a 5.5″ Nexus if the battery and camera were decent, especially if it’s made by HTC. However, if the starting price of the 5.2″ LG 5X was $659 at launch, one can only imagine what it will be for a 5.5″ HTC Nexus. I miss the days of N4 and N5 pricing.
