Netflix, which we all know as the insanely popular (and dominant) player in video streaming, has introduced a new tool to allow mobile users to better manage their data use when enjoying Netflix on the go.
By default, Netflix’ mobile app will allow users to enjoy around three hours of content with around 1 gigabyte of data use. While this allows relatively high quality video, for those with higher data inclusions, there is now the option to dial it up a bit and enjoy higher quality still.
Equally, those who don’t have as much data included in their mobile plan might enjoy the option to turn the quality dial back a bit to enjoy more content in a smaller data footprint.
The feature is available to both Android and iOS users with the latest Netflix app; select “App Settings” from the menu, and pick “Cellular Data Usage.” There, users can switch off the automatic default and select a higher or lower data usage setting that works with your mobile data plan, including an unlimited option.
Users should note that the feature affects streaming on mobile networks only; when on Wifi or tethered elsewhere, users will receive the normal high quality Netflix stream.

Sounds like its the bit rate optimisation that Netflix has been running in the background for T-mobiles Binge-On scheme… where they get unmetered streaming but T-mobile optimises the experience (READ bitrate to protect their network usage).
