With what seems to be an imminent launch looming, the rumoured new HTC built Google smartphones just keep leaking, this time a set of benchmarks has gone up on popular benchmarking service GFXBench. Remember, these benchmark results can be spoofed by someone who vaguely knows that they’re doing, but let’s proceed as if they are accurate.
The details confirm much of what was already rumoured. A 5″ device with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 4GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 32Gb of internal storage. One surprise is the snapdragon 820 instead of the newer Snapdragon 821 Qualcomm recently announced.
If the rumours are correct the larger Marlin and smaller Sailfish will share almost identical internal specs, differing only in screen size/resolution and battery capacity. The Snapdragon 820 is surprising considering the expected requirements of Google’s new Daydream Android VR platform.
With even more rumours suggesting that the production version of Android 7.0 will roll out this month with the 5th of August security update, there is a remote outside chance we could all wake up in the morning to a blog post announcing the new phones, but I don’t think that’s where the smart money will be.
Are you looking forward to the 2016 Google Phones? Do you think they will be branded Nexus? Let us know below.
My August update hit my 5X this morning but it is still Marshmallow.
We’re looking to get about 20 phones for teaching here at Uni.
We’re hanging off for the Sailfish. Should make a great teaching development tool for the students.
