What would a day in March be without a second Samsung Galaxy S8 and/or S8+ rumour or leak? This morning we reported on the price and colour availability of them and now the day’s second Galaxy S8/S8+ leak has arrived courtesy of the FCC and it’s public listings.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are set to be announced on March 29 in New York City but it is unknown when they will actually land in stores. We have heard anything from the day of annoucnement to a week later. Either way it will be very close to the announcement date which is why it should come as no surprise that today Samsungs 2017 flagships rolled through the FCC.
The FCC listings today show listings for Samsung devices with the model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955. These are the model numbers of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ repectively. The actual listings show the model numbers making their way through with the U designation at the end. The U signifies an unlocked model (as it did last year for the S7).
While it is useless checking out the LTE bands etc on these as we would assume the Australian version will arrive with full LTE support, including Band 28 (not seen here). One thing I did notice that there is voice over digital transport OTT capability with LTE but whether the Australian carriers unlock this capability is unknown — we are still waiting for them to unlock it for the Google Pixel phones.
There is the usual Bluetooth, wireless LAN and NFC testing and the Wi-Fi bands correspond to IEEE802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Nothing earth shattering there.
Aside from that there is not much new information here but it signals the beginning of the arrival of the new Galaxy phones. Hopefully we will see something regarding the Australian model very soon. With only a few weeks until the announcement all will be revealed very soon.
