Overnight, Motorola has unveiled the Moto G5 ‘Special Editions’, launching the G5S and G5S Plus (that’s enough of that). The phones are essentially the same as the G5/G5 Plus, but update in some key features.
The G5S is now an all metal unibody design, while the G5S Plus has also moved from a ‘metal design’ to an all metal unibody design as well. So what else has changed on the G5S and G5S Plus?
The G5S retains the 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 SoC but gets a bump in screen size from 5.0″ on the G5 to 5.2″ on the G5S while retaining the FullHD (1920×1080) resolution. The RAM goes from 2GB to 3GB smoothing out any bumps that were going to occur and the increase in size allows the battery to get bumped up to 3,000mAh. The rear camera has been increased to a high resolution 16MP camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), while it retains the 5MP front-facing camera.
The Moto G5S Plus also retains its processor with a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 SoC still running the show. Where it gets a bump is in the screen with the phone now sporting a 5.5″ FullHD resolution display. That extra size gets no additional battery capacity with the G5S Plus retaining the 3,000mAh battery of the G5 Plus. The G5S Plus does get a dual 13MP rear camera setup, allowing for selective focus mode.
Both phones still come with a fingerprint reader on the front and come in Grey and Gold colour options. Availability hasn’t been announced for Australia, but both phones will start rolling out ‘globally’ this month with the G5S starting at €249 while the G5S Plus will start at €299.
anybody know if the moto dual camera setups let you combine data from both cameras to reduce noise ?
