The Huawei Mate 10 has holes all around it. It has leaked, leaked and leaked some more. In the end there has been so many leaks we are all confused. There are apparently four different Mate 10 variants. They have varying display aspect ratios, they have different fingerprint sensor locations, one has a different processor — the list goes on. Today some advertising material has been discovered mentioning a few specs but mostly confusing us more when it comes to the renders.
French site Les Numeriques has been provided with some interesting product photos and advertising material for the upcoming Huawei Mate 10. The images do not provide much extra information although they do tell us that the aperture will be the widest ever seen on a smartphone at f/1.6, for both of the rear dual Leica lenses. The LG V30 has an aperture of f/1.6 as well so we suspect the difference may be in the decimal placings of the two. One thing the advertising does say about the camera is that the Mate 10 camera makes use of the built-in AI hardware and has real-time scene recognition with 14 inbuilt scenarios where the device automatically changes the photo settings to optimise the photo to the surroundings.
The Kirin 970, with its onboard NPU will also be able to perform image translation without an internet connection — the translation is done by the NPU in the phone rather than Google Assistant etc at a Google server farm.
The Mate 10 pictured has a 4000mAh battery with Huawei’s SuperCharging and IP67 water resistance.
That all sounds fairly simple and straight-forward and if you look through the pictures above you would assume the images are of the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro but there are a few things that do not make sense. One of the pictures has a fingerprint sensor on the back, which may well indeed be the Mate 10 Pro (although I am holding onto the belief they have figured out how to get an under-display fingerprint sensor functional) except that the images of the front of it do not match previous Mate 10 Pro display leaks (see below left). The display it does match up with is the display of what we expect to be the Mate 10 Plus (see below right).
Les Numeriques also mention a promotional clip where a Full HD resolution is mentioned for one of the devices. The Mate 10 Pro will NOT have a Full HD resolution on a display that big and a price that high. That then leads to the question of why would Huawei make advertising material showing the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Plus but NOT their top of the line, iPhone X-killer Mate 10 Pro? Does this mean that the images are not legit after all? They look very official to us here at Ausdroid although the English translation is not great grammar-wise.
What are your thoughts on all the Mate 10 leaks? Are you as confused as us by now? Huawei have done a great job of creating hype around their next flagship but with so many different leaks it is difficult to nail down a specific device; October 16 cannot come soon enough.
