Huawei releasing a 360 degree VR camera

Some manufacturers have had a modicum of success with 360 degree cameras and now Huawei have signalled their intention to throw their hat into the ring with a 360 degree VR camera entering the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

While Huawei has not yet been granted the patent for their EnVizion 360 Panoramic VR camera the application has been made and the product still needs to be examined but the patent is expected to be a formality. The camera is likely to interface with Huawei (and possibly other manufacturer’s) phones through a software interface, just as the Samsung Gear 360 does. Whether Huawei use their onboard AI hardware in the upcoming Mate 10 to further enhance the VR experience is unknown but we suspect they will.

Very little else is known about the camera and we do not expect to see it announced at the same time as the Mate 10 phones on October 16 but it is expected to arrive early next year.

With Huawei seeing Australia as a great testing bed for new technologies we are expecting it to arrive Downunder once released. We will keep you posted if we hear anything concrete.
