The notch on the Google Pixel 3 XL has been one of the most controversial inclusions on a Google phone in a long time, and it’s just gotten worse with several users reporting a second notch has shown up..on the side.

The notch glitch has turned up for several users on Twitter, as well as for some users on reddit, all of whom appear to have resolved the issue with a quick reboot. It appears to be a result of the orientation sensor on the phone getting a bit weird and rendering a phantom notch on the side.

The interesting one from this is that Google themselves said in their documentation for Android Pie that they would only allow a maximum of two notches (Check, they pass) but only on the short edge of the device (whoops).

During our review of the Pixel 3 (it’s coming shortly) Scott did run afoul of this notch glitch once, but only briefly and it didn’t remain like it did for these users. Google has reached out to Android Police to advise that they’re aware of the issue and that a fix is ‘coming soon’.

With the Google Pixel 3 on-sale in Australia on Thursday and a growing list of issues (all pretty much fixable with software), a Maintenance Release can’t come soon enough.

If the notch is so fantastic – as some say it is – then those people should be twice as happy to have two of them.
