Facebook has launched its Automotive Marketplace in Australia, offer dealerships a new way for customer to view and purchase vehicles online.

The launch in Australia comes after successful launches of the service in the USA and UK with plans to expand the service in more countries in the coming weeks.

Facebook has said that the automotive category is one of its most popular categories for Marketplace globally, with the service allowing users to browse used car inventory from partners which include well known online car sales sources such as Carsales, Autotrader and The Drive Network as well as car dealerships directly. There will also be the ability for users to run real time chats with sellers through Facebook’s messenger service.

Christine Chia, Facebook’s APAC marketplace partnerships manager has said to Mumbrella that:

People are already using Facebook to find their next car; in fact vehicles is one of the most popular categories on Marketplace. That’s why today we’re making this experience even better for car shoppers in Australia — by working with leaders in the auto industry, we’re expanding our used car inventory to give people more options to choose from, as well as helping local dealerships reach even more customers.

The service has become active today, and will become available across Australia over the coming weeks.
