While it’s easy to rail against the Americanisation of things at some level, getting great deals from their ‘Black Friday/Cyber Monday’ tradition around Thanksgiving isn’t one many people are willing to fight. Today Google has launched a bunch of great deals on Google Play to save you some dollars.
Apps and Games
Apps and Games are of course the heart and soul of the Android Market Google Play, and for their cyber deals you can save up to 50% on a range of apps. In their app deal focus, Google has listed three titles – all of which are free to install, so you’ll find the deals are in the form of in-app purchase. The apps on-sale are :
- Headspace: Meditation & Mindfulness
- Fabulous: Motivate Me! Meditate, Relax, Sleep
- Freeletics Bodyweight
As a bonus you can also check through the ‘Apps on-sale’ focus that’s present in Google Play every week that lists a bunch of apps, some of which are reduced to free!
If you want some games, you can save up to 80% on a range of Premium Games, including both Monument Valley games which are reduced to just $1.49 each or The Room: Old Sins for $1.99. There’s sizteen games on-sale for Cyber Week.

Google Play Movies and TV
Google has unveiled deals on a range of movies and TV shows as part of their cyber deals, for movie lovers you’ll find a bunch of great recently released titles priced at ‘$15 & under’, with some, like the Pierce Brosnan/Jackie Chan movie ‘The Forgeiner’ and Margot Robbie’s ‘I,Tonya’ starting as low as $7.99. The range of movies at the top end includes Deadpool 2 for $14.99, or the stunning Pixar animated movie Coco for just $13.99.

If TV is more your thing, you can pick up deals on TV seasons at up to 50% off with Chris Lilley’s ‘Jaimie’ Season 1 reduced to just $8.99 (from $18.99), or for something a bit more mainstream (and American) with ‘Ballers’ Season 1 starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for $14.99.
With almost 50 entries in their TV sale, there’s likely something for everyone in there, so if you want to check it out you can head over now.
Google Play Books
If you’re more into books, then you’ll find deals on both eBooks and AudioBooks on Google Play Books this week. Google has a massive amount of books priced at $5 and under for their Cyber week deals, from a range of authors and crossing a number of genres. You’ll find great titles like ‘Rivers of London’ by Ben Aaronovitch (great urban fantasy) for $3.99, or Victory at Villers-Bretonneux by Australian author Peter FitzSimmons for $4.99.
There’s over 150 titles on-sale, all under $5 and with many of us looking at some time off over the Christmas and New Year period, stocking up your library for some great titles to read is a great idea. You can check out the sale over on Google Play Books here.
If you have a long drive ahead of you this year for Christmas/New Year can I recommend an Audiobook? After driving north for a few days listening to Ready Player One as my first audiobook experience I was surprised to find my wife and son also got into the book. While Ready Player One isn’t on-sale, the second book from Ernest Cline, ‘Armada’ is on-sale for $9.99 as are a number of other titles across a range of topics and genres.
There’s 22 titles to choose from, all priced under $10, so head over to Google Play Books and see if there’s something for you.

Looks like Google is adding more great deals, this morning we’re seeing 99c rentals in the Google Play app – there doesn’t seem to be a corresponding link on the Play Store on the desktop (let us know if you’re seeing it) but it’s there in your Play Store app.
If you’re still wanting more, then Google Play Movies now has a great deal on movies in HD Quality under $5 with some classic titles including Speed, Gone in 60 Seconds, Clear and Present Danger, The Rock, Con Air, Commando and HEAPS more.
