When Nokia announced that all their future devices will be running either Android Go or Android One we expected (and were promised) to see fast Android version updates. They have shown they are still committed to these updates with the rolling out of Android 9.0 to the Nokia 7.1 which began yesterday.

Announced back at the beginning of October, before launching in Australia later that month for $499 through JB Hifi and Harvey Norman, the Nokia 7.1 was launched with Android 8.1, but that’s being updated now as announced on Twitter by HMD Global Head of Product, Juho Sarvikas.

The Nokia 7.1 has pretty decent hardware for the price with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 5.8″ Full HD+ resolution Pure Display screen with HDR10 support. The phone includes dual rear cameras for great photos which you’ll see in the review which is coming soon – start tweeting Jason for it ;).

Running Android One on their phones has been one of the best decisions that HMD Global ever made for their lineup, allowing them to deliver these updates quite quickly. You should be seeing the update rolling out quite quickly, though HMD Global has previously targetted regions for updates to ensure a smooth update process, so stay tuned.

Will there be a Nokia 7.1 review?

Still waiting for Nokia/HMD to roll out the November security update for my Nokia 6 (2017). They’re dragging their feet rolling out the update for Pie too.

Good work Nokia/HMD. Promised before the end of November and delivered (just in time!)
I’ve activated the new Pie navigation and it’s going to take some getting used to.
