Late last year Google started to trial Lime scooters, pedal bikes and e-bikes locations into the transit section of Google Maps and Brisbane was a selected as a trial city. Since then Lime has entered and exited several more cities with their at times controversial service resulting in last-mile rides being left strewn all over the place.
There have also been safety concerns with some New Zealand cities banning the devices over an increase in injuries related to the rental rides. All of that aside, Google’s trial of Lime integration with Google Maps must have gone well regardless of these issues as they are rolling the integration to more cities. My wife and I tried a Lime Scooter in Brisbane earlier this year and yes they’re just as much fun as they look and we’re hoping they’ll be in Sydney when we visit later next month. While we did start out using the Maps app it really is easier locating and bikes, scooters etc via the Lime app. Maps though, as a tool to know if there is a Lime scooter nearby that can get you to where you’re going, it’s a welcome reminder.
